E21: How to stand out as a presenter (Interviewed by Dave Sanderson, 2 of 5)
Monday May 14, 2018
Monday May 14, 2018
Author and speaker, Dave Sanderson interviews presentation coach, Michael Angelo Caruso. Michael shares tips on how you can stand out as a presenter.
It seems like everyone has a podcast and a YouTube channel these days.
The best way to stand out is to differentiate your speaking style and your unique selling proposition.
If everyone else is using PowerPoint, for example, consider not using it.
Only use original content. If you decide to use content from other speakers and authors, be sure to provide attribution.
If you're speaking on a panel, try to be the first speaker or the last speaker.

Author and speaker, Dave Sanderson interviews, presentation coach, Michael Angelo Caruso as Michael shares tips on how you can be a better speaker.
Michael says that authenticty is the key. "Good speakers are natural," says he says, "But it's difficult to be natural if you're nervous or if you don't speak very often or if you're worried about your own presentation."
Ironically, we think less of ourselves when in front of a group of people. This can negatively impact our results.
To improve your situatlon, consider properly rehearsing your presentation. Man speakers practice what they say, for example, but few practice body movement, expression and gestures.

E19: 5 ways to use testimonials
Thursday May 10, 2018
Thursday May 10, 2018
Testimonials are a great way to promote your brand. When you say how great you are, it's advertising, but when others say how great you are, it's the TRUTH.
This podcast episode with Michael Angelo Caruso covers five ways to use testimonials to get the word out about your products and services.
1. Re-purpose the testimonial on your webiste. Always get permission.
2. Use a screen shot to capture a cluster of your LinkedIn recommendations. Share that .jpg on other social media platforms.
3. Display a short testimonial in your Facebook cover photo. Unlike pics in regular posts, cover photos are visible to anyone who visits your page.
4. Use hash tags to alert certain people and entities to your great testimonials. Don't be heavy-handed about this. Only do it when you don't have the other person's email address.
5. Marry the testimonial to an image of you and the other person. This humanizes the endorsement. Photos almost always get more attention than verbiage.

E17: Unsuccessful people often give advice
Sunday Apr 01, 2018
Sunday Apr 01, 2018
Everyone's opinion isn't equal. It may be politically incorrect to say so... ...but if I'm looking to solve a problem, I value the opinion of someone who's had a measure of success with the issue in question more than the person who has not.
In his book, "Principles," Ray Dalio suggests that the best opinions are from people who:
1) Can logically describe how to handle the problem
2) Have successfully solved similar problems in the past
Dalio is founder of Bridgewater, the most successful hedge fund manager in history. He's knows for creating an "idea meritocracy" at his organization that allowed for efficient problem solving.

E15: Sell benefits, not features
Saturday Feb 17, 2018
Saturday Feb 17, 2018
If you're in sales, focus on selling benefits of your product or service, not the features.
Features are facts, such as an SUV's cubic feet of legroom.
Benefits describe how the customer will feel after she uses your product or service.
The woman who buys a particular model of SUV from you, for example, will feel relaxed and refreshed event after she's in the car for long drives.
Prospects make buying decisions primarily based on emotions, so be sure to appeal to them by selling the benefits of using your products/services.

E13: Proofreading tips to protect you from...yourself
Tuesday Feb 13, 2018
Tuesday Feb 13, 2018
Protect your image.
Proofread whatever you write. A little quality control goes a long way.
Author, Michael Angelo Caruso offers four tips to prevent you from looking rushed, disorganized or worse--stupid:
1. Proofread aloud.
2. Review your work with specific goals in mind. Read it to spot grammar mistakes. Read it again for continuity. Reread it for expression.
4. Have someone else read your work and offer feedback.
5. Ask a "pro" to proofread what you've written. Pros are people who pride themselves on being correct when it comes to grammar, syntax and language. They'll LOVE to tell you what's wrong with your writing.

E12: The perfect apology
Tuesday Feb 13, 2018
Tuesday Feb 13, 2018
Someone once said that "love is never having to say you're sorry."
Correction: Love is having to say you're sorry all the time!
If you're going to keep making mistakes, it's a good idea to learn the best way to apologize.
Communication expert, Michael Angelo Caruso, says the perfect apology goes something like this:
1. Always apologize seated not standing and face-to-face, rather than via text.
2. Use the words "I take full responsibility for everything bad that's happened," whether it's true or not. Note: Always consult an attorney for the best legal advice.
3. Don't forget to actual do the deed. Say, "I am sincerely sorry."
4. Don't pressure the other person to accept your apology. Instead, say you're sorry and then add, "...I'd love to start over with a fresh slate so we can have a better relationship."
5. Do NOT allow for conversation after the apology, lest you both re-open bad feelings and another argument. Give the person time to embrace your olive branch.
Caruso has published and spoken about this subject for nearly two decades.
