Someone once said that "love is never having to say you're sorry."
Correction: Love is having to say you're sorry all the time!
If you're going to keep making mistakes, it's a good idea to learn the best way to apologize.
Communication expert, Michael Angelo Caruso, says the perfect apology goes something like this:
1. Always apologize seated not standing and face-to-face, rather than via text.
2. Use the words "I take full responsibility for everything bad that's happened," whether it's true or not. Note: Always consult an attorney for the best legal advice.
3. Don't forget to actual do the deed. Say, "I am sincerely sorry."
4. Don't pressure the other person to accept your apology. Instead, say you're sorry and then add, "...I'd love to start over with a fresh slate so we can have a better relationship."
5. Do NOT allow for conversation after the apology, lest you both re-open bad feelings and another argument. Give the person time to embrace your olive branch.
Caruso has published and spoken about this subject for nearly two decades.
